Student Guide - e-Orientation

Placing Agency Related Guide (PARG)  Student Related Guide (SRG)

This is a copy of the Student Guide that is located in the Student's own Knowledge Base Lite which is accessed when a student logs into their own HSPnet account. This page is here for reference for Placing Coordinators for what your student will see.

PLEASE NOTE:  The e-Orientation site and student profiles update hourly. Student e-Orientation modules may not show completed right away. Please wait a full hour before contacting your Placing Coordinator.

Summary:
This guide explains how students can access eLearning topics to prepare for an upcoming clinical placement. This is only applicable to students in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

The e-Orientation feature provides students with access to eLearning topics that are published by receiving sites to prepare you for an upcoming clinical placement.

Step 1 – View your e-Orientation History

  1. Login to HSPnet via the public website at www.hspcanada.net and click your province on the map of Canada to access your local login page for HSPnet.

  2. Login with your User ID (your student number) and temporary password from the email sent by Help Desk, or with the password you last entered. Click the link for Help with forgotten password if you need to request a new password.

  3. View the e-Orientation tab to access your history of eLearning courses – in the example below, the student has 4 topics that are required to prepare for a placement:

    • The first 3 topics are mandatory and was completed on Oct 31/23;
    • The fourth topic is Underway (last accessed on Oct 31/23), and is the status is displayed in red because the topic is mandatory and must be completed before the placement starts.

  4. In this example, this student has not started any topics.

You will see there are two different ones:

    - Mandatory - which are in RED meaning that they are needed to be completed before your placement.

    - Optional - These are in BLACK meaning that they are not needed prior to your placement, but you can still take them.

Step 2 – Access the e-Orientation site

  1. Click Go to the e-Orientation site to open a new browser tab with a list of courses that are applied to your upcoming or past placements.
    - The default view is All. You can leave it there or move to other views
  2. On your dashboard you will see the modules that you need to complete in the In Progress tab in the Course Overview screen.
  3. Once you have completed a module, it will move to the Past tab in Course Overview
  4. Once you have completed a module, you will see it change to 100%.
  5. The 0% modules are the ones that you need to complete.

Step 3. Click a title to start a topic:

  1.  If the topic is offered in both languages, select the topic in your preferred language.

  2. Click link to start the topic and then the Enter button

NOTE – each topic may take a few seconds or longer to load. If audio is included, you may need to un-mute your speaker or adjust the volume.

Each topic may have a different format – be sure to review the instructions regarding navigating through the topic, completion of tests, etc.

We do not own the modules, only host them. The modules are produced by the health authorities. Each modules has their own way of completion. If the module does not say completed go through them more methodically and slowly as some need to load the next page before you hit next or complete.

Once you have completed a topic, including any tests or exercises that may be required, you can return to HSPnet and view your progress in the e-Orientation tab. In this example, the student has successfully completed the third mandatory module, and the red warning is now removed:

Many modules require that you click the Exit activity button on the top right of the module:
