Summary:
Terms are like book shelf holders – they must start before the first course date and end after the last practicum date. You could also think of them as the lines on the road that you drive between. 

HSPnet Default terms are:

  • Fall: September 1 to December 31.
  • Winter: January 1 to April 30.
  • Spring/Summer: May 1 to August 31.

To create new default terms:

  1. Click: Maintenance/SetUp/Lookup.
  2. Click: Terms.

3. Filter to the correct Department and Program, by selecting the correct drop downs in those fields. If needed, click: refresh view.

 

4. Click: Generate New Terms. Each time you click this button the system will generate 3 terms per year based on your past term set up.

Customize Terms to fit your program needs:

 

If the default terms do not fit your needs, create a custom term of whatever length you need (or you can edit an existing term for a one off placement that is extended past the end of a term.

  • Use the  Add icon  add.png to create a custom term..
    • Enter a Term name.
    • Enter a short term name (maximum 10 characters.
    • Select or enter start and end dates.
    • Save the changes with the green checkmark save green.png .

A custom term example could be: 2019 - January 1 to December 31 for practicums that go over the term default dates. You could create a term of Fall/Winter, or Winter/Summer/Spring.
Another option is to edit the dates from the default dates using the edit icon edit grey.png.

 

Key point: the term dates must bracket your course dates – the placement requests must fit within the identified term. These are like the analogy of lanes to drive between, keeping your requests within the term timeframes.
