**Receiving Agency Related Guide (RARG)****
Summary:**
A **discipline contact**contact is a way of having more than one **destination coordinator**coordinator for the **same service**service, specific to a single sub-discipline of students.
For example, a Laboratory Destination has the service *Laboratory*Laboratory that is used to place more than one sub-discipline (Medical Laboratory Assistants and Medical Laboratory Technologist). A *discipline contact*contact for *Medical Lab Assistant*Assistant students can be set up to replace the identified Destination Coordinator who coordinates only the *Medical Lab Technologist*Technologist students, so that the discipline contact can coordinate the *Medical Laboratory Assistant*Assistant students. You would NOT need to do this for students that could use other services. For example, the MLA and MLT are both placed via the service of *Laboratory*Laboratory, but an MOA (Medical Office Assistant) would be placed via the service of *Administration*Administration - so add the services of *Laboratory*Laboratory and *Administration*Administration to the Laboratory Destination. On the *Destination Maintenance*Maintenance screen, assign a unique destination contact for the service of *Administration*Administration; on Destination Maintenance assign a unique contact to the Service of *Laboratory.* That Coordinator should only have access to the sub-discipline of MLT (Technolotists)Technologists). On the *destination profile* profile screen, under the *Other Contacts*Contacts section, set up a *Discipline contact*contact for the sub-discipline of MLA. (Assistants).<div

Discipline Contact – set up
Services such as Laboratory and Pharmacy are often used to place more than one type of student:
- Medical Laboratory Technologist and Medical Laboratory Assistant both use Laboratory Services.
- Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician both use Pharmacy Services.
Nursing students may also share services. For instance RN programs and Practical Nurse programs may all use services such as Medicine, Surgery, Clinics, Emergency, and Surgical Services. At a single destination with a single service you can set up an RN programs contact and PN programs contact.
Before you add a discipline contact, please review the discipline access rights of the individual coordinators in maintenance/staff/users:
- Dolly Chow is the coordinator responsible for the Medical Laboratory Technologists, but not for the Medical Lab Assistants. Dolly should only have Technologist/Technician/MLTech in her discipline access. This screen is accessed through Maintenance/Staff/Users, and opening Dolly's user key.
Only the profession(s) she administers should be in the "allowed" box.
If David Cavalcante is going to be the discipline contact for Medical Lab Assistants, his access should be the opposite of Dolly's – he can see Med Lab Assistant requests, she cannot, and vice versa.
When the access rights are set up for the individuals:
Add the Destination Contact (Destination Coordinator):
- The destination contact is added on the destination maintenance page using the pencil/edit
icon. We have added Dolly, and although she is the destination contact, she cannot see the medical lab assistant student placement requests. (for further info see step by step guide: Destination Contact – Add/Remove).
Add a discipline contact:
- Click Maintenance/Set up/Look up/
- Click "Destinations."
3.
Filter to the correct site and service on the destination maintenance page.
4.
Click to open the Destination Profile.
5.
Go to the contacts tab of the destination profile.
6.
Click the "add icon" under "other contacts."
7.
- Select the name of the discipline contact from the Staff drop down list.
-
- Red text advises: A Discipline contact will become the primary contact (instead of the designated DC) for placements in the specified discipline.
8. Beside Type select "Discipline Contact" from the drop down list.
9.
A new Discipline drop down box appears. Select the correct discipline.
10.
Save the changes with the green check mark.
Placement Requests for Medical Laboratory Technologist will show Dolly as the Destination Coordinator.
Placement Requests for Medical Laboratory Assistants will show Dolly as the Destination Coordinator, but also identifies David as the Discipline contact. With the access rights set up correctly, only David sees MLA requests and only Dolly sees MLT requests.
